Hemphill Construction Co., Inc. was founded in 1963 by the late William Hemphill. The company began as a small painting and commercial building contractor doing remodeling jobs. As time passed Mr. Hemphill began venturing into small soil conservation projects and installation of water and sewer lines in residential subdivisions. In the late 70’s commercial building work ceased and the focus of the company became underground utility installations. Through the guidance of Barney Bairfield and Richard Rula, Hemphill Construction Company, Inc. began to expand into other construction areas. The company at the time was located in a 1,400 SF building, and employing approximately 20 employees, with our work located in Mississippi.

In 1984, Mr. Hemphill passed away unexpectedly due to a massive heart attack. As the years passed Hemphill Construction Co., Inc. became a regional contractor maintaining a reasonable rate of growth that today reflects in excess of 350 employees, maintaining contractor licenses in the States of Mississippi, Louisiana, Arkansas, Tennessee, Alabama, Georgia and Florida, an office building of 22,000 SF located in Florence, Mississippi.

As an indication of our financial condition, our bonding company Chubb is rated A++ and provides performance and payment bonds to only the very best contractors in their respective fields. Our levels of expertise presently include site grading for large commercial developments, complete subdivision developments, structural concrete, steel sheet piling, water and wastewater treatment plants and pump stations, and installation of all types of underground utilities including storm drainage, sanitary sewer, water mains, gas systems and the monitoring of storm debris removal and debris removal itself from storm ravaged areas.

Hemphill Construction Company, Inc. is divided into four major divisions – pipelines of all sizes and descriptions, water & wastewater treatment plants and pump stations, road and highway construction, and storm related cleanup and monitoring services. These divisions are the cornerstone of Hemphill Construction Co., Inc. Through the years, we have demonstrated that we offer the most qualified staff, experience and equipment to construct almost any type of project in any kind of soil conditions and terrains including rural, urban and industrial environments.
